A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Music videos are used primarily for marketing purposes to promote the sale of the artist. music came into prominence in the 80's when MTV based their format around the medium. Music videos use a wide range of styles of film making techniques, including animation, live action filming, documentaries, an non-narrative approaches such as abstract films. Many music videos do not interpret images from the song's lyrics, making it less literal than expected.
Above is a still image from 'Mumford and sons' this have given me inspiration for styling in the music promo. the wind is used in the video because the song is called 'winter winds' the song reflects them as a band through the hard times they have been through individually and as a collective, its a warming song that people can relate to. the melody and rythm is up beat and gets quicker as the song progresses towards the end. Their music style is folk music with a indie/bluegrass twist making them an unusual band but very nice to listen to. the video is unusual as it just shows the band members like the song only tells a story of what they have been through during their own lives but us as an audience watching can relate to the music and video. Their style in the video reflects their genre also the folk music and indie look is very much apart of their styling especially in this video e.g. top buttons done up, waist coat and dark brown clothing with a fitted style. Many and most of 'Mumford and sons' songs are literary based with influences from Shakespeare and Macbeth also using words from John Steinbecks novels 'Of mice and men' ect...
