We used unsigned.com to find our band. We searched by genre and looked through the indie bands till we came to a band we liked as a group. On the unsigned website there is search engine which allows you to search the band by name/genre and it also allows you to upload music also. This is how we found ‘The Nites’. We were looking for an indie band with a small band cast. We used unsigned.com because we could only use unsigned bands as copy right acts wouldn’t allow us to use a signed band, unsigned.com is good because it gave us access to thousands of unsigned bands in loads of different genres. We knew what genre and just left us to find the band perfect for what we wanted.
We used Youtube to look at examples of promos to understand the idea behind the music promo. They are to advertise the band and show off their genre and style to the audience watching the band. Youtube was useful is gave us access to millions of videos if we wished to view them and also allowed us to see behind the scene shots of music videos, this was useful as it went into detail about how music promos are made and put together (edited). Also youtube gave us access to watch peoples opinions on music videos which was useful as we used negatives from other videos and tried to correct them in our video so people would have less to pick up on when they watched our promo.
During shooting I didn’t pick up any new skills but worked and improved on the ones I have already. This made shooting easy as the skills were there but some improvement was needed. Although I didn’t partake in much filming because I was in the video I feel my skills in shooting have improved greatly because we spent much time trying to fit the music with the movements of myself (Jacob Ede) and Ryan Fleming improving my editing skills and technique, to edit a music video requires patient so being patient with it was also something i learnt and this made the outcome better as we didnt rush in editing the video. My editing skills have improved also. I have also learnt to use ‘Adobe Photoshop’ this allows me to create both ancillary tasks on it, Magazine advert/poster and a digipak. Some of the technologies we used were ‘Final Cut express’, ‘I-Movie’, and ‘Adobe Photoshop’ these helped us complete the video and ancillary tasks.
During shooting we used some technical advantages like low lighting, bright lights these gave emphasis on the performance to bring peoples attention to the performance to attract an audience to the band as the focus is on them. Developing lighitng skills i have learnt when shooting the thriller in AS.
Overall I beleive that my skills have improved greatly as I understand what is required when shooting a video. I understand what angles work and lighting works where. Also my editing skills have improved since my AS project and developed them when putting together the captured unedited film.
